In keeping with the anglophilic nomenclature of our pets, our puppy will be named Matilda. Besides being the protagonist in a great children's story (the original inspiration for the name), Matilda also happens to be the name of a de facto English monarch who "ruled" England for most of 1141. She was the actual Holy Roman Empress and Queen of Germany from 1114-1125. Her grandfather was William the Conqueror, who invaded England in 1066 from Normandy (Northern France), leading to the demise of the Anglo-Saxons. Empress Matilda's father was Henry I and her son was Henry II.

You could also name her "Page". It seems more all encompassing.
